01ON-BOARD CAMERAS

Capture

Cameras built into the welding helmet film the weld zone and the working environment. The welder keeps their booth, torch and equipment: nothing changes in the gesture itself.

02COMPUTER VISION

Analyse

Computer-vision algorithms extract the key parameters of the bead being laid and detect deviations from the expected gesture.

Feedback is immediate, displayed in the field of view, then consolidated for the instructor: per-apprentice history, session comparison, progress areas.

Built by a welder

WELD-MENTOR was not born in a design office. Dylan Alexandre runs ARC FRANCE, an industrial welding company, recipient of the 2018 French Senate Medal — French Republic, and represented France on the WorldSkills France national team. The parameters the solution measures are the ones a welder actually watches.

Frequently asked questions

Does existing welding equipment need to be replaced?
No. The welder keeps their power source, their torch and their consumables. WELD-MENTOR is added to the protective equipment, it does not replace it.
Which processes are targeted?
TIG and manual metal arc as a priority. The exact scope is being consolidated with partner training centres.
Does the device get in the way of the welder's gesture?
The ergonomics and the weight of the helmet are design constraints addressed as a priority. It is a validation criterion for each phase, not a secondary point.
How is learner data processed?
Gesture data is processed for a teaching purpose, following a principle of minimisation. The scope of access, the retention period and the ways to exercise your rights are detailed in the privacy policy.
Does the employer have access to individual results?
The scope of access is being defined with specialised data protection counsel. No employer access is open by default.
When will the solution be available?
WELD-MENTOR is in development. The first demonstrations are open to a limited number of training centres and manufacturers.
